Iceland

Day 1

Flying to iceland Friday night from London, arriving late at night, so all we did was, went straight to sleep we have enough rest to explore the city next day.

First thing we did on day 1 was to visit the famous Blue Lagoon, it was about 45 mins by bus from the city, and it costs about 35 euros for the ticket but it was abosolutely worth it. The milky blue water, with steamy smoke and black rocks surrounded, create pathways that was just magical. The weather was not exactly amazing on the day, it was quite dull looking and of course cold, but as soon as I step into the lagoon, everything just melt away and all I could think of was how relaxed and happy I felt.
After spending 3 hours in the Lagoon, we headed back to the city centre to spend some quality time exploring the centre of Iceland’s capital. By the time we got back from the lagoon, it was already 1pm so we went for lunch at a restauant that is famous for their traditional Icelandic dishes. It was very tasty meal of course, I had the fish of the day, it was so fresh and tasty.
After lunch, we headed to visit the biggest Cathedral in the city, it was bulit in 1929, it was very different from those that I’ve seen before. It was very modern looking from the outside, and inside was built in a way that formed by simplicity and natuaral lights. We spent about half an hour or so inside to admire the beauty that it is. For some reason it also reminded me of resemblance of Asguard in Thor, the movie (but that’s probably just me)
After church, we was hoping to go see the fish market, but we ended up at the fleamarket instead, that wasn’t what we were expecting. However, on the way, I was happy to get a chance to see the different type of houses in Reykjavik, take in on how colourful they are, they just bring the city to life.
Later in the night, we were supposed to head off to see the Northern Lights but the weather was not on our side. The sky wasn’t clear enough to see the light. So we ended up to go for dinner instead, the restaurant is just next to the hotel and it was owner was Phillipino, so some of the dishes have the resemblance of the Phillipino food.

Day 2 was all about sightseeings, we went out of Reykjavik to visit the Glacier and Gulfoss (the Golden Waterfall). As we drove further away from Reykjavik, the two road sides become more and more like a fairy tale, it was just purely white land that goes miles and miles. The further we go, I felt like I was in a scence from the movie, Frozen, which was definitely one of my favourite movies of all time. Glacier is like a water volcano, where heat and pressure built up and created this powerful splash of water coming out. I was only managed to caught the small splash on my camera, and when I thought that was it, then the second one came out powerful and high. Afterwards, we headed to Gulffoss, the waterfall was incredibly beautiful, it was actually first time in my life to see such a big, strong and powerful waterfall, it was breathtaking. But then one negative thing I can live without on this trip was actually the unpredictable and changing weather. It was sunny, then snowing and windy in the next, I was lucky enough to arrive at the waterfall before the snow come down strong, I felt like I was in a snow storm.
We arrived in Reykjavik at 7pm, then we had to head straight to see the Northern Lights, after waiting for hours, we did not get to see the lights as the sky was not clear enough again. I was sad that I didn’t get to see the Northern Lights before I leave Iceland. But I was told by the tour guide that the Lights are actually can’t be seen by the naked eyes. It can only be seen clearly and beautiful through the camera lens.  Unfortunately , I didn’t get to see the Northern Lights the first night and I had to leave the next day. But my friend got to see it and shared the picture with me.

Here are some of my favourite moments from the trip.  Hope you guys enjoy !
